Sonic Stalagmites

Created By:  David Guttman

This project takes sound as input, whether ambient environmental or via hard-line, and runs them through algorithms in real-time to make unique acoustic paintings.  Many variables can be adjusted on a MIDI controller or even via OSC on an iPhone (sensitivity, size, opacity, color range, speed, etc.), producing radically different effects.  Sonic Stalagmites incorporates an open source programming language and environment for people who want to program images, animation, and interactions.

Shown at:

  • "Self Comes to Mind" -- Live accompaniment for Yo-Yo Ma
  • LACMA
  • Mindshare events throughout 2008 & 2009
  • GEL Conference 2009
  • Dorkbot LA
  • Digital Family Reunion
