Stephen Colbert’s RGM

May 01, 2010 at 2:12 AM

Stephen Colbert wanted a Rube Goldberg machine to open his show, so he tapped the creatives at Syyn Labs.

Syyn Labs team member Brett Doar designed and built a beautiful machine for this purpose, incorporating numerous Colbert themed elements. Because it was built in Los Angeles, but the show tapes in New York, the machine had to be then packed, shipped, and reassembled on-site. Reassembly had to take place inside a very narrow time-frame, and the reliability had to be very high as the show is live to tape. The machine worked flawlessly.

See the fantastic machine in the video above.

In addition to the primary machine, a second, smaller machine was built as a bumper into commercial. This small machine features a magnificent puppet of Stephen Colbert made by Syyn Labs team member Jess Bressler.
